Tracing back to history, West China Hospital originated from Renji and Cunren Hospitals established in Chengdu in 1892 by the Christian Church in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom; West China Medical College originated from the Department of Medicine of West China Union University in 1914. Medical schools established by churches in other countries according to the Western medical education model. In 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. Central University, Yanjing University, Qilu University, Jinling University, and Jinling Women’s College of Arts and Sciences moved to Chengdu and jointly run schools and medicines with West China Union University. The grand occasion is unprecedented. In 1938, China University, Chinese University, and Qi University with medical schools established the United Hospital; in 1946, the West China Union University Hospital was completed on the current site, referred to as West China Hospital.
In terms of medical care, West China Hospital is a national-level center for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult, critical, and critical illnesses in western China.
