Eye Ear Nose Throat Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University
The Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital of Fudan University was founded in 1952 by national first-class professors Hu Maolian, Guo Bingkuan, etc., when it was founded, it was called the Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital of Shanghai Medical College. In 2000, Fudan University merged with Shanghai Medical University to change its current name. It is the only third-level Grade A specialized eye, ear, nose and throat hospital under the National Health Commission that integrates medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research. In 2006, he was awarded the second title-Shanghai Ophthalmology Hospital, and also the title of Shanghai Red Cross Hospital.
The hospital has eight clinical departments for ophthalmology, otolaryngology, radiotherapy, anesthesiology, emergency department, stomatology, ophthalmology, ear and nose plastic surgery, nursing, and five medical technical departments for radiology, pathology, pharmacy, inspection, and nutrition. Located at No. 83 Fenyang Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, Fenyang Campus occupies an area of 33 acres and has 374 open beds. In 2002, Baoqing Road branch was opened. In 2017, the Pujiang Campus, located at No. 2600 Jiangyue Road, Minhang District, Shanghai, started operation. The Pujiang Campus covers an area of 100 acres and has 359 open beds in the first phase. It is under unified management with Fenyang Campus to provide homogeneous services. In 2018, the total number of outpatient visits in the hospital exceeded 2.2 million, and the number of surgeries exceeded 130,000. The medical services spread across the country. The hospital currently has 1,240 employees, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 chief scientist of the 973 project, 3 Changjiang Special Appointment and Chair Professors, 3 winners of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Project, and 2 winners of the Excellent Youth Project. 2 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to national health and family planning. There are 170 physicians with senior professional titles, 39 doctoral supervisors, and 55 master supervisors.
Ophthalmology and ENT are both national key disciplines and clinical key specialties. In the "China Hospital Specialty Rankings" released by the Institute of Hospital Management of Fudan University, otolaryngology has been ranked first for 9 consecutive years, and ophthalmology has been ranked third. The hospital is a national clinical drug experimental institution, with the National Health Commission’s Key Laboratory of Auditory Medicine and the Key Laboratory of Myopia, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Visual Impairment and Reconstruction, and the Shanghai Auditory Medicine Clinical Center and Shanghai Ophthalmology Clinical Quality Control The center is a training base for specialists in ophthalmology and otolaryngology of the National Health Commission and a standardized training base for residents in Shanghai. In 2016, the hospital established two research institutes of ophthalmology and otolaryngology to integrate resources, build a basic scientific research platform, and realize the integration of clinical scientific research. In 2018, the "Shanghai Optometry Research Center" was established in the hospital.
The scientific research projects undertaken by the hospital at all levels have increased year by year, including the National Key Basic Research (973) Project, and the National Major R&D Plan. He has won a number of second-class national invention awards and second-class national scientific and technological progress awards, and published many academic papers in the international top magazine "Nature" series. Since its establishment, the hospital has been awarded the title of Seven Civilized Units in Shanghai.
