Peking University People's Hospital was founded in 1918. It is the first comprehensive western medical hospital built and managed by the Chinese on their own. It was originally named the "Central Hospital" and Dr. Wu Liande, a pioneer of modern Chinese medicine, served as the first president. Asia's first allogeneic syngeneic bone marrow transplantation, China's first hepatitis B vaccine and China's first extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy equipment were born here, promoting and witnessing the progress of Chinese medicine.

The hospital closely follows the requirements of the national science and technology innovation policy, focuses on the national "13th Five-Year" key research areas, strengthens innovation orientation, breaks barriers, actively encourages scientific and technological innovation, and conducts research on clinical medical difficulties, hotspots and key areas.
